The “Y” Area
The Y Area of South Lake Tahoe is located at the intersection of Hwy 50 and Hwy 89 in the southern end of South Lake Tahoe. Heading west on Hwy 89 from the Y takes you to Emerald Bay. The intersection forms a “Y”, so this neighborhood and commercial area was cleverly named the Y. There are numerous restaurants and stores, including the factory outlets and Grass Roots, the only health food store in South Lake Tahoe. The Y neighborhood is characterized by flat terrain, so you are unlikely to find any lake Tahoe homes for sale with good mountain or lake views in the Y area. Its close proximity to The South Lake Tahoe High School and stores, restaurants make this appealing for the both the first time home buyer or retiree looking for a quiet but central neighborhood.
The Lake Tahoe homes available in the Y area is a mix of newer construction Tahoe homes, cabins, and chalets. The Y area is a great neighborhood for first time Tahoe home. Similarly to the South Lake Tahoe homes in parts of the Bijou and Sierra Tract neighborhoods, you’re more likely to find entry level priced Tahoe homes in the Y area than compared to other South Lake Tahoe neighborhoods.
The Y area is centrally located providing easy access to Heavenly Ski Resort just ten minutes away and Sierra at Tahoe Ski Resort around 30 minutes or because of the location you can always jump on the Shuttle/bus service available to area skiers. Why not live in the Y and take advantage of your Lake Tahoe cabin’s central location to world class recreation around the lake?
