As the summer season fades into a picturesque autumn in South Lake Tahoe, the destination continues to offer a vibrant array of events and activities to keep visitors and residents entertained. From the return of some beloved annual events to the new Tahoe Blue Event Center, here’s a list of to put on your calendar.
- Sample the Sierra, a farm to fork festival, returns to Bijou Community Park Saturday, Sept. 21., 1 – 4 p.m. The festival combines local chefs/restaurants with neighboring growers/producers cooking up food tastings paired with the appropriate wine, brew or spirit. The festival marketplace includes locally made goods such as jam, soap, honey, and olive oil along with specialty products such as fine art, jewelry, and crafts. samplethesierra.com
- Oktoberfest at Camp Richardson Resort, Oct. 5-6, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission and parking are free. Well known for its family-friendly activities, beer and wine garden, and Oktoberfest-inspired menu options, this year’s choices will also include the Über Plate with four types of sausages, potato salad, braised red cabbage, and sauerkraut, and desserts by Frank Vilt’s Cakes. - Tahoe Knight Monsters take the ice for their inaugural game Oct. 24, at the Tahoe Blue Event Center. Lake Tahoe’s first professional sports team has three home games October 24, 25, 31. Puck drop is 7 p.m. and tickets are on sale now at www.tahoeblueeventcenter.com. The Tahoe Knight Monsters are an ECHL team affliated with the NHL Las Vegas Golden Knights.
- Lake Tahoe Documentary Film Festival, Oct. 4-6, at the Tahoe Blue Event Center, spotlights “stories that light up the soul.”
- The inaugural Meyers Mountain Fall Festival at Tahoe Paradise Park, Oct. 19-20, noon to 5 p.m. each day. Enjoy live music performances by Mescalito on Saturday and Broken Compass Bluegrass on Sunday, both from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The festival will have a beer garden, a pumpkin patch, and classic fall activities like pumpkin decorating, a Halloween Costume Contest, and pie-eating contest.
